Default HSV 255 auto

G'day guy's.

OK, I just took my mums partners VT VX HSV Clubsport auto for a spin.
I have never driven one before so i was keen to get a feel.
Now it may just THIS car but i found the auto to be really weird! up down up down! crap box. Didn't know what it wanted.
great breaks and power. Crap everything else. Dash plastics are woeful.

Any thoughts?

Stick to the Falcons i've driven i few HSV's at work and agree with what you said and have always found that the inside of the cars have a very poor finish for a high range model

I drove a VZ SSV Ute a few weeks ago that was a 4speed auto, and it was rubbish. Not even fast, just sat there winding up in first gear like a BA-BF XT.

So I can't see how any VT-VX could be construed as quick..

Those auto boxes weren't flash, much better cars with T56 6 speeds.

This is the exact reason why I would only buy a HSV, with a manual gearbox.

Factory tune on the auto is crap - apparently updated from a tuner and the auto changes are much better. Wouldn't know though, I had a 6 speed manual VT.

I recently... lost... my HSV VX Senator...

I prefer the dash (high series VX dash) over an AU dash...

Was it a VT or VX?

What does the "335" mean?

The 4L60E gearbox wasnt crash hot... but its easy to criticise it now that most Falcons/Commodores have 6sp autos.

As for the up-down up-down... Could have just been a gearbox on its way out - solenoid not holding... weak bands, etc...

I don't see the point in the post though - Are you asking what people think of the VX, what the issue with the gearbox is, or thoughts on HSVs?

OK i did some research and it's a VX 2001 model.
And before you LOCK the thread i am not bashing it at all and i won't.

It's seems a good car apart from the auto, plastics and heavy steering.> ( yes i know i didn't state that in my first comment )

That's just my opinion, I think my AU 2 XR8 is a much better package although it has less power and the brakes are not as good. The brakes in the HSV are great!

Err, hate to ask this, but why not *edit* the one post instead of making about 4?

Plus, you may want to edit that first one while you can to tone it down a bit (if it hasnt been too long).

No offence meant by my last question, but I always think twice before posting about the "Dark Side" in a biased heavy forum (no offence, just stating the obvious)...

Paid $2500 to get my 4L60E rebuilt... then it got torched a few months later...

Come drive my latest HSV... loads better then the VX (IMO)... but not haven driven an FPV... i cant make that comparison...

The auto and the interior plastics, fit and finish are THE biggest reasons why I prefer Falcon over Commodore.

If the VE SS had a better quality interior design, fit and finish I would have bought one over my FG XR6T because, handling-wise, the VE SS is a slightly better car - particularly when it comes to power down. It's the tranny's and interior that let it down and when you spend your time driving in the interior and constantly using the transmission, they are two big blots on an otherwise excellent package.

I have found the same feeling as the OP with every single Holden automatic box i've ever driven or have been driven in. It never knows what gear it should be in - drives you nuts! I love the LS engines but they're completely let down by the gearbox.

Holden Cruze is very similar in gearing, sitting at 100, it changes gears frequently, 110 it's okay...that being said, that's the only auto holden I've driven in years - the VL's used to be pretty good from memory (that being said, I have only driven two and they were the same)...

ive owned both holdens and fords, im a swinging voter, dependant upon what is the product on offer.

From my ownership of holdens ls1, holden injected 304 and v6s, the power steering has always been dodgy. The interior plastics seem to change colour too.

I love my fords because they make a more robust car, for many years and especially through the vt2-vx ls1s they were much quicker than the fords but not built better.
