Default HM Gem Engines.

Hi all,
As the title says i bought a change over engine for a friends festiva, the engine was delivered with the following: Long motor, gasket kit and warranty book. The so called engine fitting gasket kit only contained inlet and exaust gaskets..which are for a mazda so they dnt fit, i had to purchase a thermostat gasket and a fuel pump gasket. The engine it self had nothing apart from internals and a timing belt and a water pump, not even a dip stick tube which im yet to remove from the old engine, next problem with the motor is the block is a slightly different cast which means to bolt the trannie up i need to use a nut and bolt in one spot, not what i like to do. I paid $1790 for a 1300cc engine that ive had problems fitting with, my question is did i get ripped off?? i will be contacting the manager direct tomorrow as he personaly delivered the engine. I think its just stupid ive spent more time swapping parts then pulling it out and re fitting it.

i would like to hear peoples thoughts and if you have dealt with HM i would like to know the service you recived.

Thanks Addison.

Sorry to hear this mate , I have used GEM exchange engines twice , once for an old 250 pre crossflow and again for an exchange 351 clevo which cost extra because i only had a 302. Customer satisfaction has always been their strong point SO get on the phone and get it sorted ... Best of luck, presuming of course 1.3 & 1.5 are identical ? .. Cheers ...

If it is a 94-99 Festiva I think they shared mechanical components with the Mazda 121 buble cars, that also came out in 1.3 and 1.5L

I am aware the Mazda and Ford shared small car parts, this is for a WA festiva though and its carby 1.3, its just so stupid how they assumed the exaust manifold was the same wen its a Ford head...Dazzler 351: i will be contacting the manager direct as he delivered the engine and we had a good chat once it was off loaded but this dodgy service has cost me a whole days work.
