[QUOTE=Mack 6]Google is your friend hey flappist.
The old rounds are where full metal jacket comes from. Jacketed rounds that pass straight through the shootee. Because a hollow point will enter, mushroom out and bounce around a bit doing severely buggered up stuff to your insides, it's considered to be too inhumane. As Flappist says, these are armed conflict rules of engagment, not necessarily applicable to everyday shootings in the melbourne and sydney CBD's QUOTE] Hey! And don't forget ... at kick boxing tournaments on the Gold Coast. |

sorry guys.
Everywhere but adelaide, where our psycho's use knives to carjack women about 2 km from my work. I suppose by informing your victim what you are shooting them with, it may increase the success of your operation if you inform the ambo's |

The M1 Abrams tanks used DU anti tank shells as their main weapon, and with the Australian Army taking delivery of them in the near future the DU shells with probably come to our shores. Run for the hills.

Used to be in the ADF and my job entailed knowing about these things ( weapons) Current weapons are more designed to injure than kill Steve

Jesus. so much disinformation. If i had the energy I'd set people straight on it all.
Despite all the crap the bleeding heart agenda driven loonies spout, the DU used in ammunition by the Americans does not use the byproduct of nuclear reactors, i mean, think about it. They burned through 259 tonnes of DU in A10 ammo (The numbers aren't quite spot on, but they're close enough without me dragging stuff up). That means they used 259 tonnes of uranium in reactors. not likely. The term DU refers to the fact that they use the Uranium left over from extracting U235 for use in reactors/nukes/medical use. IT IS NOT REACTOR WASTE. The General Electric Avenger (30mm) and Vulcan(20mm, F/A-18s use them, as do the Phalanx system on Naval vessels) cannons in shipboard and aircraft installations have a closed loop feed system, the empty and misfired shells are not turfed out the side, they are returned to the back end of the feed drum. As for misfired shell concerns, the DU core is completely encased in Aluminium, even in a misfired shell there is *no* exposure. Australia has a long history of using Tungsten penetrators in weapon systems that use a DU penetrator in the USA. Add to that the fact that the M829E3 round that the USA uses in the 120mm Smoothbore gun is Highly classified, and *definitly* export restricted. Phalanx is a prime example, the US version of the amunition uses a DU core, we use tungsten. Our Leopards used a very ordinarily performing Tungsten penetrator. I'm not going to get into the design of small arms ammunition and the designing for wounding and providing maximum stopping power, and what happens when a bullet designed for "civilised" conventional cold war enemies is used on uncivilised adversaries.
