Question New seat belt fines in WA

Just wondered what the fines and points are in the different states.
Here in WA it's now $500 and 4 points, and if it's a double demerit weekend lookout.
The Premier says he wanted to make it $1000, crikey.
When driving around the people I see not wearing a belt usually look like they couldn't afford the fine anyway in clapped out old bangers.
Not that I have any pity on anyone for not wearing their seat belt. Most of our country deaths are for not wearing a seat belt.

Well here in Tasmania it is $110 and three points. My wife and I got fined on Good Friday for not wearing our seatbelts, we were cruising around looking for some tea and while going between shopsgot pulled over, I was doing a whole 25Kmh... $110 each and three points for me. As a P plater I only get five points, it is ridiculous... Speeding and drink dribing I understand, you can harm or kill others but wearing a belt is a personal matter, I agree with belts and have been saved from injuries on numerous occasions by them. These rules and those WA rules are RIDICULOUS!

It is all about road safety of course! Yeah right!!! We simply forgot, we drove for four hours earlier in the day and had our belts on, but we are unsafe and must be fined!!!

People not wearing seatbelts after a crash typically cost the country in medical care, generally injuries are greater and loss to the country where a person dies is measured by BTRE at over 2 million dollars now.

Realistically, very few crashes are directly attributed to speed, but speed is a factor in around 43% of crashes, both above and below the speed-limit. Typically, 80 of crashes occure below the speed limit, these involve death, serious injury, and injury other.

Personally I think it's sad they have to fine people for seatbelts. I would have thought common sense would dictate something so simple such as wearing a seatbelt. What benefit is there to be had by not wearing one?

Lol on easter weekend imagine getting caught 8 points, that would suck. I really don't understand why people complain (not on here) about wearing seatbelts it takes a second to put on and is un-noticeable once on. It's sad that they have to go to these measures to try and stop people killing themselves for no reason.

I would think that seatbelts cause more good than not. In any case a seatbelt caused serious damage logic would suggest it would be much worse if they had not been wearing one!

What cases would they be?
I got a real bad case of seat belt rash in a stack once.
At least I didn't end up kissing the windscreen though.
Another time I hurt my collarbone on the belt in a roll over, but I suppose I could have been thrown out and squished.

They are rare cases where people have been ejected from vehicles because they wernt wearing seatbelts, and would have been dead if they were wearing one and remained in the vehicle in the accident.
My uncle claimed if he was wearing one in one crash he would have died. I never saw the vehicle and it was before seatbelt laws also.

Not sure on the percentage that would have been better off without one, but I imagine it would be miniscule.

XR6Martins experience is a little more common, 'ejections', and to Beetus's example above. A local example to me over Xmas break was that of a young lady, a 17yo who was ejected through the windsheild of a Skyline after impacting a tree, on a curve, on the other side of the two-laned 70km/h road. Fast and without pain.

On scene - no sign of functional brain activity, kept of life support a day or so 'in case'. Bf driver survived physically well enough, emotionally stuffed.

Wear the belt, even if its a hassle in an old car, make the effort.

To tell you the truth I've never thought about it. When I jump in the car the belt "Automatically" goes on, It actually doesn't feel right not wearing one, if you know what I mean
