:thebirds: Mothers Day is a tricky one. After many years of a voucher I decided to get my mum a mystery flight. but you can never go past a new dressing gown and/or slippers !!!

I've made suggestions to hubby and the kids... hubby rules though, he comes up with ideas of his own. He told me last night that he had thought of something really REALLY excellent but that it unfortunately exceeded our budget. So I begged him to tell me and he said that he was gonna get me a drive in a V8 racing car I kissed him alot, even though I'm not going to get it, because he thought of me - and I know when our budget allows I'll get it! woohoo!

Anyway, suggestions this year have included:
1. one of those groovy new types of coffee machines
2. vouchers for massage (oh yeah!) or beauty therapies (facial, manicure etc)
3. vouchers at a favourite department store
4. home made dinner where mum doesn't have to lift a finger (only to eat)
5. a nice dinner our at a good restaurant where mum doesn't have to pay!

I'm a mum... so if anybody EVER tries to buy me one of the above I will write them out of my will (not that I own much, but STILL! It's the principle of the matter!).

Mum's Birthday is on Mother's day this year... so I wanted to do something special. Am taking her to Tassie for a weeks holiday!

She had to find out early though, no surprises.

Mum's are easy to buy for anyway, just buy something sookie and they'll cry and tell you how much they love you :P

You've been around for more of them then me, I had to catch up somehow!

On a differnet note, I work at an Aquarium, we sell fish (obviously) and reptiles... I had a guy come in wanting to buy a Bird Eating Spider for his Mum... I wonder how well that went? :

Gift certificates are boring too and normally cost you much more than a well thought out pressie anyway.

Well people, don't bother buying the Mother's Day flowers from Woolies. I just marked the whole lot up $10 a bunch.
I know thats how it works everywhere, but damn it made me angry to have to do it this morning.
Just like I know when the bosses are about to get their bonuses, because I have to put the prices on all the Homebrand items up! :

Going to be a really crappy day for a family friend of ours.
One of her sons died a year ago on mothers day.
34yrs old, massive heart attack on the dock at the woolworths store he managed.

I just came back from work (restaurant), and my g/f was there with her family. She took her parents out as a present for mothers day.

Some Mum’s would enjoy nice perfume or flowers, some love music, even a family photo in a nice frame.
Take her out for a family dinner and spoil her a little.

I have been a Mum for close to 24 years and things that mean the most to me, are number one, seeing my kids, any gift purchased from the heart, dollar valve means nothing. I would rather see my kids, spend some time with them and have hugs and kisses for Mothers day above and beyond anything.
Mothers day to me is a time for kids and mum’s to reflect on the years together.
Kids are after all what makes you a Mum.
I no longer have a Mother to hug for Mothers day, ( I regent the Mother’s day I didn’t go and see her ) so all of you people out there that do, hug her tight while you can, as one day you won’t be able to. Being loved by your kids is the BEST Mothers day gift any Mum could ask for.

(Oh I am being spoilt rotten this year and loving it)

If any of you guys are short of ideas for mothers day (and live in Melbourne), I have a couple of entertainment books for sale (they cost $60, with some of those proceeds going towards helping my uni golf team survive in the future... Espesially next year if the VSU is introduced by the government).

The book contains heaps of discounts including; fine dining, restaurants, cafes, takeaway, arts, sports, attractions, accommodation and much more... (even 20% discounts to autobarn etc for yourself ;)).

You can find out more here:
http://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/

If your interested drop me a PM or email and i'll hook you up with one in time for mothers day.

Well I don't normally want anything and neither does my mum...I just send her a card then phone her for Mothers Day as well :

As prior mentioned, spending the day with my kids is the perfect treat. Or chatting to my grandson, even though it is only baby jibberish, makes my day.

Photo's, books, a home cooked dinner or dinner out. Flowers, chocolates, pj's, perfume, jewellery or music are some of the things my friends receive on Mothers Day.

I have to say, Im with Bindi! Im a mum and if anyone bought me one of those CDs.... well lets just say I would be polite, but would take it back and exchange it for Linkin Park or something. Haha.

A good present depends on what you want to spend and the person you are buying for. I bought my Mum one of those packs from the Body Shop. You can get all these really nice packs with soaps, smelly stuff, bath bombs, moisturiser etc, etc ranging from about $30 through to $200 and the stuff is really good! They have heaps to choose from and its just so easy for fella: walk in, pick one out and pay for it. They will even gift wrap it for you.

CDs and DVDs are also a good choice for a Mum if you know what music or movies she likes, or even a voucher.

Many Mums of all ages like books, so a voucher from a big bookshop could always be a relatively inexpensive option.

As opposed to flowers, often a really nice unusual plant in a pretty pot is a nicer option and longer lasting.

Something that usually makes any Mum happy is a really good quality photo frame with a picture in it of something she treasures, like her grandkids or even of you!

There are also heaps of shops around these days that sell really nice kitchenware and bathroom gear, like Wheel and Barrow or Bed Bath and Table (I think thats what its called). Can get really trendy salad dishes/plates, wine glass sets, vases, nice embroidered bath sheets, etc.

A good bottle of wine can also go down well with some Mums, with a nice ribbon on it or something.

Another more expensive option is crystal figurines from Swarovski. You can get them in cute little animals and things like that, and they usually range from $80 up to $100s.

There are always the regular electical appliances such as those foot massagers, a trendy stainless steel kettle, one of those grilling/toasty making things, the coffee maker is a great idea.

There is probably heaps more I can think of, but for the moment that will do. I hope this helps.

Personally, I would be stoked to just get a card from my kids that they made at school, get to spend the day with them and perhaps some nice little mod to my car...

Oh and my Mum's 60th is a few days after Mothers Day, so she will get the usual two presents in one hit! Hehe.

Happy Mothers Day everyone!

Jac
