Default 4WD mishap

this afternoon while minding my own business at red traffic lights a guy (or girl) came up beside my car to do a hasty right hand turned and hit my drivers side mirror leaving a small but annoying, pain in the a$$ scratch thats gonna cost about $80 bucks to fix. tried to catch up to them but it was too late by time the light had changed
very very ****ed off :

its the driver that chooses to drive a vehicle that is designed for off road on city streets..is it not

not to mention all the people that drive a 4WD out there dont actuly know "how big" there "4WD" is, and things like the first post by XR-ENVI happen and much worse..

also its the driver that chooses to park there 4wd on or very close to an intersection and cause crashes simply coz other road users cant see through them.

then there are all the 4wd related crashes that happen every year...

if sombody goes to an alf game wearing nrl colours screaming go storm, he would be classed as a ****er, would he not?

yet if sombody drives a car around town that shouldn't be there in the first place, he/she is not a ****er...

*if you use your 4WD for off roading i have no problem with that, they just dont belong in town.. IMO

4wd are high and hard to see around thats the only annoying thing oh and slow off the mark. You can say the same thing for trade utes i don't know how many things iv seen fall off them, the old fairlane is busted up cause one droped a large metal rod and then fanged it away. We will never get rid of 4wd's they are here to stay just gotta live with it. Soon we will probably see bigger and bigger lift kits of 4wd so they can see over the top of the other 4wds.

Hope ya get your car fixed ok!

Thats no good mate.. I sorta had the same thing happen to me, Two days into having my brand new XR6T i parked it at the shopping center to find when i came out someone has knicked the back of the rear spoiler on my ute.

Cost me $175 to fix, wasnt to happy either... was a very tiny scratch as well.

well at least a few people have stuckt o the subject matter and no-one bit at the woman driver comment *damn*
i dont have a pic at moment, it doesnt look bad just really really annoying

oh and by the way
4WD should be used for their purpose whether it be towing or off road but i guess some people want it for the size they "feel" safer and stuff (not that I am saying they are). My brother bought a brand new patrol and next day took it off road (and got a shit load of scratches), but he still drives it round town too but its also his business car. i guess its an argument no-one will win.
BUT anyway nooone really notices the scratch on the car, it just means no shows till i fix it which will be in a couple of weeks

It’s still enough to make you see red. I’m not sure how I would compose myself if I were in the same situation as you. An old copper mate of mine said to me many years ago to focus on the cars number plate (if the conditions allow) and worry about the damage after you’ve got their plate. It least the p**** that did this would have to cough up to have it fixed.

Cheers, Danny

That’s a real bummer that. I had f** pr*** on a Harley clip my mirror while I was stopped in traffic once. I couldn’t see his plate as the van in front of me partially blocked my view and he was off. I hope you can get it fixed quickly as it will only upset you looking at the scratch.

Cheers, Danny

Although my opinion isn't quite as extreme as kiwikid's, I can see where he's coming from. To me 4WDs are an annoyance and there is absolutely no need for 99% of the drivers to be driving them, but ah well what can you do? I would be extremely happy to see laws brought in to restrict 4WDs to people that have a genuine reason to own one, whether it be towing, working in the bush or whatever. I know this will never happen but wouldn't it be nice?

i dont think that would be nice at all

i wrote off my car from hitting a 4WD, if it was a normal sized car there wouldnt have been half of the damage, but big deal, they are on the roads so just keep your eyes open, and find something better to do with your time than complain about something that is NEVER going to change

XR-Envi, that sucks man, but hey, atleast it didnt rip the mirror off!

I'll quantify myself first... I drive a Terri and I love it.

99% of drivers don't need a V8....... But some people buy them and love them and good luck to them.

Lets ban people movers as well.... they also make visibility a problem at intersections and pedestrian crossings. (sarcasm just in case anyone gets the wrong idea). They also have a high centre of gravity.

All cars have pros & cons and it comes down to personal choice - a cornerstone of our society.

JUST to join the 4wd debate regarding size whats the go with the territory, they come in 4wd and 2wd. so its got the size but not the off road capablility so does it fall into the catergory of the "toorak trACTOR"?

All sorts of cars impair my vision, just my fault that my car's been lowered, I suppose.

XR-Envi, that's a bugger, I have a nice white scratch on my passenger door that needs a little panel beating and a touch up and will look good as new. Doesn't worry me yet, as soon as rust bubbles start appearing, well, different matter entirely.

Now, my stance on big 4WD. They aren't a nuisance when you need them to tow caravans, any other purpose other than off-road, a massive nuisance.

With my caravan point, the number of sedans and wagons I've seen towing caravans that basically have the tyres rubbing on the underside of the wheel arch is tremendous. I call that abuse. Engine revs more causing quicker wear and you are wearing out suspension and tyres too. That's the only reason I can see that you'd use a 4WD on the road, for towing them big b*st*rds behind you.

i call that dickheads that dont know how to tow.

havent they ever heard of load leveling devices?? they can and do make the world of difference......

on towing, i get so peeved whenever i see someone towing, and their safety chains are dragging on the ground.... um, idiot!
you're supposed to cross them and attach them to the towbar so that if the trailer does happen to detach from the towhitch, the drawbar of the trailer can sit on the crossed chains and not dig into the road and flip the trailer........
