Default Last Calder Meet For The Year

Guys,

Rod clark used to do a list for racing. Lets post up names of people wanting to race or spectate just like old times.

I think its a good idea, then i'll know who to look out for.

Im bringing the XR8 out.

You know this might not be such a bad way to get alot of people from here together in the one place at the one time, I mean every time I have been i always meet someone new from one of the forums.

Whats say we make it like a mini meet kinda thing and anyone that wants can maybe get together at the Keilor hotel later, or even coffee at one of the local maccas. Actually it would be a great op for one huge assed pic of all the members and their cars.

Just a thought :

I didn't start this thread for derogatory comments about Bob jane, I just want to know who wants to come out race/spectate last meet.

The main reason they havent done as much as they maybe could is because of attitudes such as yours, with many people no longer going funds have decreased. It takes alot of money to even run an event let alone maintain it, and as for resurfacing well thats a whole other issue, keep in mind that many of the people you see 'working' their are actually volunteers if they had to be payed they would go broke because of the lack of support.

If the management see numbers increasing they will of course have to look at bringing in changes earlier, you don't have to race if you choose not to but you can contribute just by helping to increase the numbers of spectators. Understand that when management and track owners look at any kind of refurbishment they first look at the viability of any changes that may take place and the increased demand if any by those who use it.

Most of you wouldn't even know that it was almost shut down just a couple of years ago in favor of a new track just up the road on Boundary Rd, this is the main reason the track was let go somewhat as their was no foreseeable gains to be had in any maintainance work being done.

If we don't show them that we want and need this facility in Melbourne then they may even sell it off to land developers who have been after it for years, change the way we think about what we're owed and lets prove to them that maybe they do need to look at doing something sooner rather than later.

Thats why I asked for as many of the Melbourne members as can make it to get their backsides out their and support not only them but also the members that go out every week and have a good time and entertain the crowds.

But most importantly i think its gonna be so much better when Chris gets that 11 second pass, go you good thing, so instead of everyone going on about how much they love their Ford, come out tomorrow night and show your support for some great local forum talent and lets make it a final round to remember.

Stick that in your pipes and smoke em up :the_finge

[QUOTE=XRQTR]The main reason they havent done as much as they maybe could is because of attitudes such as yours, I have drag raced and supported racing at Calder since the late 60s when they held there very 1st meeting. In those times you could get as many runs in as you wanted, and it was even televised onto commercial tv.At the last few meetings i have raced at [ yes still racing at nearly 60 yo_lol] we have been lucky to get 3 or 4 runs, waited for up to an hour due to oil downs and suffered stone chips on rear guards due to poor return roads.Compare this to the REAL time avaiable at other strips and you will appreciate why Calder does not deserve support. See you in the staging lanes.

Again you have proven my point, sure you were their when they invented the wheel :thebirds: but that doesnt mean they owe you instantly.

Their is a lot of politics that have gone on their over the last few years regarding whether or not the place was to stay open, the biggest problem as I see it at the moment is the management or lack of really. They seem to be too interested in the bottom line I agree and some of the changes are definitely a waste of everyones time, however that said they have been trying to make improvements, baby steps is how I see it for now.

Im not having a dig at you personally so dont think that but its this kind of thinking, and people not going anymore, that basically says to them their is no real need to do any repair/maintainance work on the return track and the pits or even the stands. Its unfortunate that the management currently their dont really seem to have any real idea what people want and have their own agendas, whatever they may be, but unless we get behind it they will keep going the way they are.

Anyway not happy about this whole no go for tonight, I mean i was always of the impression that if the forecast was good and their was no threat of rain after about 2 in the arvo that it was all good. But I guess this leaves a few more weeks now for more development work hehe as Im sure most will be doing.

I was hangin to see that 11 second BOSS :
Anyone for Heathcote??? haha

Everyone has a choice where they want to race, this thread will no longer used as a discussion about Pros & cons of Calder Park.
Take that to PM.
