I thought that it would be a good idea to have a thread that highlights some of the ridiculous rules and regulations that are being imposed on us.
Please add links to news stories and government press releases that show stupid laws, OH&S rules and anything else designed to target the lowest common denominator. Please leave political arguments out as the thread will be closed by mods. Here’s a few to start with. http://www.bordermail.com.au/news/lo...s/1792107.aspx http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertai...-1225848763137 http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/rulesregul...peedlimit.html

Speed limit reductions are rediculous!
Here on the Sunshine Coast on the stretch of Bruce Highway outside the Ettamogah Pub the Limit has been reduced from 110 to 100. and its only for this stretch. Due to the fact the government force the builders of the Pub to make its Access points adequate. They deem the Exit dangerous and short.. which it is! so why not fix the exit! Stupid Gumbyment bandaid fixes! |

Fair enough . Im a smoker and i dont like someone blowing smoke in my face. But as a australian citizen dont you think i have the right to sit on a empty park bench in the street or sit on the beach and have a cigarette if i wish . I dont intend on invading anyones space but the way things are headed im not going to be able to leave my house until i manage to quit smoking . |

The day they ban smoking in open areas had better be the same day they ban the sale of tobacco products. (note: I'm not a smoker, I just don't like hypocrisy :P) This alcopop bs is obviously a money grab. What's next? beer? wine? If teens want to drink they will find a way, I doubt the cost is an issue especially if it's split four ways. Don't get me started on the internet filter (read censorship). Small breasted women are now considered RC (refused classification) as they may 'resemble' a child and liable to be blocked if the filter gets through. That's a far cry from the beastiality, pro rape CP etc (that you'd be hard pressed to find anyway) that CONroy likes to babble on about. Funny how he seems to always miss the other not so illegal stuff that would be blocked also. I can't believe such a thing is even being considered in Australia.... The ones that do this along known running paths are the worst as when you're really sucking in wind the last thing you need is a lung full of smoke. Perhaps payback with BO is in order

I guess we better ban cars. I dont see the problem walking in a crowded street with a ciggy. Some food smells worse to me than what cigarette smoke does. I dont complain when I'm walking along Lygon street passed the restaurants and one is particularly pongy. Better stop food smell from reaching the streets because the smell of meat might offend the vegans of our city. |

And while the world is starting to see us as a nanny state, they are probably starting to think we have no sence of humor....

i would think we live in an arrogant state, not a nanny state
when i was a kid, the penthouses and playboys were towards the back of milk bars. there wasn't as many and we had to go out of our way to look at them and of course the owner would set us straight if we were looking. i guess the people complaining of these magazines feel that 12 year old girls wearing porn star t-shirt are inappropriate too. no doubt our aff members think that is ok. as well as make up, eating disorders etc. from such a young age it is a horrible world we live in when smokers rights are violated to the point they cannot smoke on the street. how horrible for them, that since they were quite happy to violate my rights of fresh air, they now are the bad guys. boo hoo these rules come in for one reason. because some of our perfect citizens take the current rules too far because they consider themselves more important than the next person. be it road, censorship, polluting air - if people had respect, then we would not be heading so fast into a nanny state. i say so fast, because although this will surprise many people here, but the nanny state rules have been happening ever since they stopped feeding christians to the lions at colliseum. i am sure some of the more wealthy people screamed nanny state or the equivalent when that happened. same as when traffic lights, car rego, pub closing times etc. etc. etc. were introduced. as always though this generation can only think of itself and believes it is the only one that has had rights taken away for whatever reasons |

Well the thing that really p***** me off about our rights/priveleges being eroded is...what about all those that died fighting for us to keep them was it all in vain!
I bloody hope not. Its time for the silent majority to become the very vocal majority.

They have changed the liquor licensing laws to try and stop some of the clowns who come out of nightclubs totally tanked turning up to the Anzac Day dawn service. Well what they didn’t think of is that many of the veterans try and get together before the march and have a quiet one at Young and Jackson’s. It’s been a tradition for many of the fellas for years. Well now that Y and J’s can’t open before 2:00 PM (I think) these fellas can’t have their little get together. All because of some moron in Spring Street who knows what’s best for them.
