Default Weekend at Supercheap Auto 1000, Bathurst

We are planning on organising a trip to the Supercheap Auto 1000 at Bathurst and would like to get an idea of how many people would be interested in attending.

We’ll be heading off on the morning of Saturday October 9 and will be up in Bathurst in time to see practice and then the Top 10 Shootout. We’ll then head to our accommodation in Orange (approx 30 minutes drive from Bathurst).

The next morning, bright and early we’ll be returning to Bathurst for the Great Race. At the end of the day, people can either head home to Canberra or they can spend another night in Orange and then drive back home on the Monday morning. Please note that Bathurst is a very long day so a second night in Orange would be advised (though not essential). Accommodation will probably be around $130 per night.

General admission tickets at Mt Panorama are $103 for the weekend or $138 with paddock access. Grandstand tickets range from $210 to $255 (add another $30 for paddock access).

This should be a fantastic weekend and for those who have never been to the Bathurst V8’s, a real experience!

Everyone still up for this? Been quiet here.

Picked up my tickets yesterday.

Hoping I won't need to, but as I did the following to my diff, I may need a lift there and back.... It's in progress of getting fixed, but these things take time.

New indestructible* diff is built, and ready for installation back into the car. Should have it all back next week.

As for why, dunno, I wasn't doing anything at the time (had to convince the coppers that stopped by of that - "you been doing skids son?"), it all went rapidly downhill within about 2 km of home.

Craig (@ Southern Diffs who's been looking after me, and owns two cobra's a new and an old) said the differential case (see below) failed - and is completely missing (see my pic above, it should be firmly attached to the ring gear) - assumed on the side of the road.

Here you can see the TrueTrac is solid rather than an open design.

Harrop make them here in Aus from billet, and are good for apparently over 500rwkw. The Eaton made (US) ones are not billet, but cast, and not as strong - but half the price.

*damn well better be for the $ I've sunk into it. New everything, case hardened 3.45:1 gear set, billet Harrop TrueTrac centre, new bearings, new seals, new alloy hat, synthetic fluid. etc. etc.

They are not like the old mini spools are they ???

I had one in my Phase 3 and it went great in a straight line but was a ***** turning particularly at slow speed like in a car park .

Kept sheering the diff housing locators in the springs and each time had to drive it very gently at what ever angle it wanted to crab at to get it home .

Nah, they're not a locker, under normal driving they work like an open diff. When there's slip some worm gears interlock making sure both wheels are going at least as fast as the ring gear, one can be faster (like going around a corner), but none slower.
