3/8 drive breaker bar and stick it in the tensioner and push to the passenger side i think and it loosens the belt.

Could be idler or tensioner pulley too.

Don't you want them to turn on when you open your doors like they do on Fairmonts?

Yeah I think they might. As the switch has 3 settings - OFF - DOOR - ON

OFF - Cuts the power
DOOR - only puts power when the main light goes on
ON - will bring full time power.

Maybe I'm confusing myself sorry lol

Take a switch wire from your dome lamp and this will turn all the lights on when the doors open, and then get a hard active or (constant power wire) from the map lights so it can be operated when the doors are shut..... hope this helps a bit.
(edit: or as said above)

it might not be the wiring, all the switches in the AU's including the map lights can sometimes be unreliable ie: window switches breaking down ect.
Best bet is to pull it apart and check the contacts havnt worn down or have a black charcoal look to them like the window switches get, if it does then it wont be making contact and wont turn on.
It might not be that but pull it apart first and have a play around with it see how you go.

Interior lights are constant power and negative (earth) switched. The yellow/green (or is that green/yellow) wire is power, and the black or black/blue wire is earth. Hook into the cabin light, and use the light from a fairmont/fairlane and you should be right. They are normally switched to come on when the door opens, or you can flick the switch on the light and they will come on then too.

Nearly forgot - the squealing is unlikely to be the actual belt; it is more likely one (or more) of the idler pulleys, or the PS pump pulley or AC pulley. Replace the idlers first (they are the cheapest) if you can't find the exact source of the sound. Good idea to replace the belt at the same time.

And get a spell checker on your browser!

Which pulley did you change though? There are at least 4 that could cause the issue.

If it's still making noise, then it's either another pulley, or wasn't the pulley in the first place. Could be the water pump, or AC pulley? I'd be making sure I knew where the noise was coming from before replacing anything else though.

Another chapter of bizarre electrical faults in AU Falcons.

Occasionally, when I put my hazards on, there is a buzzing comming from the fusebox. I turn them off, open the cover, and watch the fuses as I turn the hazards back on, yet the buzzing doesnt come back.

For quite a while there, the door ajar light in the dash was not coming on when I opened the door, yet the interior light would go on and fade out like normal. Its back now, as if there was never a problem in the first place.

For ages there my parkers didnt come on, but I the dashlights worked. I just got used to not having them, until one day I had my low beams on, and while walking around the car noticed the bluish glow of my bright white LED parkers..

It definately sounds like you're chasing faults of a similar calibre. I hope someone can shed some light here, because I know how frustrating it can be.

Oh and your lights- you can get a factory wiring harness and fit that to your forte. It all plugs in. I installed map reading lights and rear pillar lights in a base model ute (got them out of a S3 XR8), when all I had was the center cabin light. Unplugged the single light, cut a couple of holes in the hood lining for the map reading lights and rear courtesy lights, and plugged it in, all working.

Major item of concern is to measure 3 times and cut once...... get it wrong, and you need new headlining.
