Skoda Octavia vRS..... would you?

I have just seen a dealer demo, 08 plate with 4700kms for $29,990

Seems like one hell of a lot of car for that price.
2.0t VAG engine 6sp Manual (same as VW Golf GTI)
Heated Leather and Alcantara seats
Tints
Mats

Very tempting but would anyone consider?

A VERY good car IMO... And a VERY good price too with... EXTREMELY (thought I was gonna say VERY didn't you! :P) low km's! Great buy! What colour?

Ive been a VAG fan for a while now, although i get nasty looks everytime i try n buy one :(

Love the new facelift version of the RS, but my better half doesn't think much of it! Each to their own I guess.

Id look, but never buy, no matter how well skoda's are built these days people will always think of them as dodgey cars no matter what, its sad really

Apparently its socially unacceptable to buy VAG, however, the best VAG is usually free anyway.

You see, after coming out of a Fiat, I'm quite partial to another european car, and from driving the vRS and the Mondeo XR5 there isnt any comparison. where the vRS up and hauls, the XR5 wallows and waits.

The vRS in question is 'Sprint Yellow' which really stands out. What im wondering though, is what experiences people on here have had with VAG aftersales service and the like.

From what I have read online, Skoda consistantly rates in the top 5 makes in the European vehicle owners satisfaction surveys.

I'd certainly consider a Skoda. Much of what I have read about them indicates that they are well made cars. Using their German parent company's components can only be a good thing as well. Take it for a test drive!

Nothing wrong with these cars, its like someone saying you shouldn't buy a new alfa because it will rust.

I like them, proven VW parts and a lesser cost.

I wouldn't buy one because you would have to tell people you own a Skoda. Just imagine the weird looks you would get.

My brother in law just bought an Octavia RS, I have driven it and it a nice solid well balanced well equipped euro car, with a new generation diesel and trick automated 6 speed manual transmission it's fantastic. And it goes ok.

He keeps buying cars like this and keeps replacing them every 2 years max. And there is your problem. They are the sort of car that works when you say 'I bought a New car"

If it is for you buy it. Someone else has copped the big depreciation hit. He paid $45k ish for his (a wagon) and your looking at $29K for a demo.

I would not buy one. IMHO a car has to pass the 5 year test and this doesn't. The test is, is it a car you would like to own when it's 5 years old? A 5 year old GT is a desirable thing, is 5 year old Skoda? The other vehicle cred test I have is if you have to explain the HP and or how it's applied you have failed. Think, GT, WRX, EVO & HSV. No explanation required. (well maybe the HSV) .

I would buy a Skoda, if i was in the market for that style of car, cheaper than a VW and made in Czech republic, not mexico or south africa like the jetta.

True story though, one of the blokes my grandfather worked with bought a Skoda- the real deal, back in the late 60s. They were all good socialists, so it was a bit of the old workers solidarity; they were certainly diehards, because it was an absolute POS. Czech quality has certainly come a long way since then.

Well I have now driven, and it really impressed. I drove for 250 or so km, up and down the Bells Line in the Blue Mountains and then down the Great Western, and some local traffic running. It was really really easy to drive and had plenty of grunt on the mountains and just felt nice and solid on the road.

Depending on what the changeover will be, I see no reason why I cant lay some coin on it. It has already taken its first major depreciation hit in the first instance and intend to sell the vehicle on in two years regardless.

What other sort of vehicle could people recommend that might be considered a competitor? I have already considered Mondeo, Mazda 6 and Accord Euro and unfortunately, came away unimpressed with the performance for the money.

I like it! Its a fine tourer - took a look and short drive myself (wifie needs new car), heck - even checked the Roomster:-) Now that Roomster is very clever - amazing stowage and thought gone into it, practical too - great for comfortable family country trips.

Need more external colours though, something like 'deep purple'! (Not the band:-)

Each Skoda models have the Sig-advocated item, and rear fog and more.

Looked at Mazda 6 (looks good, tyre noise in back seat from wheel) and new Kia Rondo-good - (vs Roomster), and Cerato -not bad on price- (vs Mazda 6). Might see Grand Vitara Prestige or lower spec VW Tiguan;-

i'd certainly have one, they're using the equivalent VW platform underneath and have raided the VW parts bin for everything else. Certainly nothing to turn the nose up at.

Well I put my money where my mouth was.

I bought it.

Looking forward to delivery next weekend or thereabouts depending on my work schedule. And the car in question turned out to be an 09 compliance!

The Dealer concerned was simple and easy to deal with, and didnt baulk when I asked for a 24hr test drive. The changeover price in the trade in sealed the deal.

Will let you know how the ownership experience turns out!!

Congrats on the purchase.

I have a Red vRS which has now done just on 40,000kms since I purchased in April last year. So far nothing has broken and it is as tight as a drum.

I also have a VW Gti which I purchased in June, only has 7,000km on the clock, same engine, but has a DSG gearbox......the Skoda is quicker and better built than the GTi.

Hey guys, I know this thread is old but thought I'd post up pics of my Skoda Octavia RS which we bought after or close to new Ford WS Fiesta Zetec was written off in the Melbourne floods early 2011. Had this skoda since Mid Feb 2011 and absoutely loving it.

Will be blackening out the roof and b pillars soon. Also got a set of KW V1 coilovers ordered so will be given moar lowz very soon. Hope you like it.
