i said it before, if the car become popular it will be made in the usa.

the government and unions stated very clearly that job for the u.s. workers.
so holden is just feeling the water's for chevy

Ford marketing should run with this comment about Australian built cars:

Good call, GM's essentially saying the Commodore is American & only assembled in Australia (still better than Korean I guess). The quote should be included in every interview Burela gives for the next 12 months.

i read a review of the Crown vics it appears they were dynamicly on par with a series 1 au (live axle), these guys will fall in love with the Commy as they would have with our v8 falcons or 6 turbo`s, i guess being rhd in the Falcons only means another missed opportunity for some export.

I think the AU wouldve been a world apart from the Crown Vic.

I dont know if this will be as lucrative as Holden wants people to believe. Police contracts will net them less money than private Pontiac sales, so this is only Plan B after the G8 tanked with Pontiac's death.

Richard ‘Copperfield’ Blackburn pulls another one out of his, er…. hat. This story has the trademark of being another slow Holden news day. As with any GHM feel good story, I’ll believe it when I see it.

The title should have read ‘Holden Halves Production and Slashes R&D Budget Due to Commodore Export Failure’, but I guess what they used is more accurate?

Did i read the wrong article? No where does it say this is a "done & signed" deal. Neither does it say they are even close or the front runner...

If only Drive was so positive about the Falcon things in this country could be so different.

So does this means that Gm pays a bit off its tab to the US government at holdens expense? After all cruze money to start building here was deferred at the moment due to chapter11, so does holden really think that they (new gm ) would send fresh payments back to OZ?

No chance Aus will see any payments, GM's in real strife, and the government are keeping them alive just. Crown Vic is still the best US cop car....oh and that badass mustang off transformers

If i had the choice of a Crown Vic or a SSV (G8..) I'd be jumping ship to GM pretty quick.

I understand why they use the Crown Victoria as the room & ergonomics of the car make it a very hard car to let go to, the parts & repair would still quite simple.

General Motors CEO, Fritz Henderson, made mention at the Frankfurt Motor Show that the carmaker has been working on a package for police applications and that he was quite optimistic it would be sourced from Australia.

Melbourne’s National Safety Agency has already put together a Chevrolet-badged Commodore for the 2009 APCO Australasia Conference & Exhibition in Sydney.

Holden is certainly not the only carmaker vying for this position, although senior GM executive, Bob Lutz, has indicated importing cars from Australia was by no means out of the question.

“While the large RWD cars may be made in Australia, they are an integral part of GM, contain US-built engines and transmissions and numerous other components, and are so ‘American’ in character that I don’t believe the law enforcement agencies would have any problems with the assembly origin of the vehicle. Plus, they’ll love it,”

The expectation is for the Holden Commodore to become the vehicle of choice for the LAPD, which is seeking to replace its aging fleet of Ford Crown Victoria sedans which will be discontinued next year.

This could prove to be quite lucrative for Holden with more exports potentially going to Canada, the UK and the Middle East.

With any hope of migrating the Pontiac G8 to another brand dashed, this may be Holden’s last chance to revive its North American exports which represented about two-thirds of its total exports for the year.
