Default AU motor into EL

Hello fordies,I am picking up 97 EL tomorrow,the motor is kaput [ piston is holed] I have an oppotunity to pick up motor from an AU 4.0 16 Can anyone tell for sure if it will fit without any reservations Thanks JORDYN

Im pretty sure your gonna need the ecu etc for the AU I6 to go into an EL ??? ( someone else might want to confirm this ) , nowerdays with ECU's and it controlling and monitoring a majority of the engine , it is necaserary to have the correct ECU to match the engine type . Not just a good old swap over like old days with petrol/spark/and carby engines ! ..

el = dizzy, au = coilpack

either change back to dizzy on au motor, or change to au ecu or change to aftermarket ecu

AU engine will fit.

You may need to do some minor modification inorder to get it in with existing cross members. You will also only be able to use the EL accessories, but the difference between the engines is worth it.

AU ECU will not function with EL electrics.

If you post this in the E-Series Section, you will get heaps more info, some of those guys have done the swaps.

If all you are going to use is the bottom end and head, you can hang all of the existing EL accessories, including injectors, dizzy etc off it, and it will run. There is little to no difference between ED/EF/EL/AU engines, apart from minor changes, such as metal head gasket in AU. Power output is still 157fwkw, so there's not a whole lot to be gained by fitting an AU engine, apart from the fact that it ***should*** be lower km than a wrecked EL motor (unless it came from a taxi).
