Default What car did you hate but now love ?

Like a lot of people I really didn't like the AU when it was released and basically kept not liking them up until about last year.

Now I find myself thinking the shape is really cool. I love the XR models. The bonnet details and the front headlamp design is great. The more I look at them, the more I am falling in love with the shape.

I currently have a black AU XR8 ute on loan and now I'm thinking of buying one!

So what cars have you hated but then done a complete backflip and now love ?

I never really warmed to the au shape, though i thought the faimont looked not bad, and to be honest , i still dont think its a pretty car inside or outside, by the same token ,

every day i drive the AU say to myself what a " bloody grouse car " , its just that good to drive.

Other way around for me.
Loved the Golf R prior to purchasing and now I loathe looking at it.
16 weeks later and VW still can't fix it, plagued with electrical issues that they can't fix!
Not only will I never touch another VW product, but I won't even hand over a cent to any of their service centres either.

Not a relevant post I know but I am currently taking any opportunity to inform people of their practices.

I know it is off topic but. Colleague of mine bought a Golf R, white. Paint is peeling off. They sent someone out from Germany to investigate. They are saying it was painted twice and the second coat is peeling away from the clear that covered the original coat. The only cure is to strip it to a bare shell and repaint it. The car is 12 months old. Not good is it? He is trying to get it replaced and he has a good chance as it has not been fixed in a reasonable time and it is classed as a major fault because it will take more than a week to rectify.

Back on topic, as much as I hate the AU my black AUII XR6 car was well loved.

Hello,

Have a look here. http://www.cars-that-suck.com/stories.html Now some are whingers, and some have made their own bad luck. But, they replace it with a Toyota or Honda and the trouble stops.

Toyota Corolla. After being slammed from behind by a dump truck, knocking 4 cars ahead into each other, and still being able to drive away while the dump truck needed to be towed, I developed a newfound respect for Japanese engineering.

VE Holdens. At first they looked so bad to me but now the shape has really grown on me, to the point where I'm considering a series 2 Calais.

Ford Fairlanes. Used to think they were way to big and kinda ugly. I still think they're excessively big and not the best looking cars, but I love em now

I've learnt now to never judge a book by its cover. May seem like a barge but the interior, handling and pulling power totally make up for it.

All this rings true for me but with WH Caprice.

Even picked up a Tungsten one as a daily, as you can now get them for about the price of their remaining rego.

As a youngster I loved the H series Statesmans (still do), but went off them from WB onwards.

Which specific models are we hating here? I am a fan of all Fairlanes from 1957 through to the ZH. Anything after ZH did nothing to put a bulge in my trousers...

The newer ones. Say 1990 and onwards. The ones with the sports tuned suspension with "Control Blade" are nice cars though, they have blind spots the size of Mexico, but they're good to drive

ZL Fairlanes - used to think they were soft looking but now think they are one of the best looking cars ever made in Oz.

P76 - used to think they looked like something you would use to jam a door open but now... Sorry, they still look like that :-)

Used to have a Camira on my P's a long time ago
The key to a good Camira is thrash the living crap out of them ... funnily enough they seem more reliable if you do this .... never had a problem with mine.

Was used to deliver pizzas in as well.

Was great at reverse helis too.

I knew someone who had one and drove it like Miss Daisy ... had no end of trouble with it.
