Default A Warning for all LW hatch owners

Hi all i just want to bring to LW hatch owners that the spear on the front edge of the tail lights is more often than not wearing away your paint around the front edge and that if left untreated it will wear thru to bare metal as has happened to one of my friends on his early 2011 build on the right hand side, on learning this i removed both of the tail light on my may 2012 build to find that both sides have been wearing into the paint. this problem only appears to occur in the first 25-30 mm of the spear and can easily be remedied by filing the back of the leading edges flat where they have an edge about 1.5 mm deep. The easiest way to check if your light is rubbing is to push on the leading edge of the light, if it can flex inwards it will not be rubbing if it does not flex but is hard against the car body then it will be rubbing and damaging your paint.
Removal of the tail light is a fairly simple job by just undoing 2 plastic nuts located inside the hatch area and then lifting the tail light up and out from the body, the spear will pop out of its rubber mount as you do so, then you just unclip the wiring harness at its connector, refiting is the reversal of the above
