5.4L 4V - boat anchor (vs XR6T and LS1/LS2/LS3/L76/L98)

Sprint 302 has great top end, was faster than equivalent HSV in it's day. Not boat anchor in the same way AU1 XR8 auto I tried very much was, and EB 165kw jobbie was (so smooth tho) with torque all low down.

BA Fairmont Ghia with 76,000km on the clock and in one of my favorite colours, Congo Green. Actually, it's rare to see that colour without peeling clear coat. Congo was discontinued not long after the BA launch, mid 2003. Actually, I wouldn't mind buying this and taking it to the next level.

Pulled the trigger on a new daily roundabout.. tidy stock standard N/A XR6 ute for 11.5k which seemed good value in the current market.. caryards are trawling Marketplace pretty hard for anything they can get some profit on, missed out on some similar options for the same price only to see them pop up for sale the next day for 50% plus mark up

After daily driving tuned turbo's for years I got a nice surprise when I filled up the ute for the first time, decent range!

Just came across this 2016 FGX XR6 Turbo Ute with only 16,000km on the clock.

"Great opportunity to own a low km FGX in it's last year of production. Suits a collector."

No it wouldn't. The vehicle has been slammed and the engine heavily modified. A collector won't want that................especially for $60,000.

I couldn't see the list price as it was marked on hold.

But, "Holy Floor Finance, Batman".

The list price for a typical XR8 in 2016 was $57K when new. I don't have exact figures to hand, but the floor finance (surely?) would be around 10%p.a. The floor finance cost to date is probably around $65K and the list price would have to be north of $130K for the dealer to break even?????

My sister had a wagon one in V6 Diesel with the AMG option and it was a nice car but ride quality wasn’t too good. Had staggered AMG 17” rims. It was a good back road car, great handling and torquey engine.
Build quality seemed pretty solid for a modern Mercedes.
I liked it enough to consider buying a diesel wagon in September 2023 but there were no V6s on the market. The four cylinder diesel wagons were priced from around $12k-20k back then depending on year and mileage.
Your link would be on the higher end of the market.
Looking back I’m glad I didn’t buy, my driving doesn’t consist of any twisty roads to justify the below average ride quality. But after hiring a lot of common shit from rental companies, I’ve realised a decent ride quality isn’t an expectation most car buyers have when choosing a car.
