Let's assume it was once considered cool (why ?), or let's assume some had it 'forced' upon them during battle scenarios (soldiers). So maybe there were certain circumstances way back that created this acceptance.
However, in this day and age, I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would even start ? There is not a single positive reason. It's not considered cool, it's unhealthy (widely accepted that this is true), it's expensive....and it's addictive.
I am amazed to see young kids today, smoking...or even using their substitutes to kick the habit. Why...I don't get it ?

Have you ever heard of peer group pressure? I will leave it at that.
PS: 28 years since I kicked the habit.
