battery light coming on

had a bit of a weird one in the fairlane today,
in normal mode(economy off) when excelerating the battery light has been flashing briefly when the car changes gears(this is without accessories like radio, cd, air con on).. anyone else had this? is it cause for concern or just time to get a new battery
